CAST Frequently Asked Questions
Why did CAST choose UniFi over other vendors?
We chose UniFi because it delivers the same advanced security and performance that big vendors offer — without the hidden fees or inflated price tags. Their latest Cloud Gateways include powerful features like Layer 7 application-aware firewalls, giving you smarter filtering, stronger protection, and seamless scalability.
CAST takes this technology and makes it simple. We configure, secure, and monitor your system so you get enterprise-level Wi-Fi and cybersecurity built for everyday life — at a cost that makes sense.
CAST is not affiliated with UniFi nor do we get compensated. We are not a hardware company and do not profit from the equipment itself. Our goal is simple: to bring big-company cybersecurity, wireless, and wired networks to everyone — without the enterprise price tag.
We refer to it as a CAST System because while UniFi provides excellent hardware, CAST takes it further. We configure, secure, and optimize the system so it actually works for you — with enterprise-grade protection, segmentation, and support tailored to your needs. This isn’t rebranding; it’s about delivering a complete solution built on trusted UniFi equipment, elevated by CAST’s 30+ years of expertise.
How does a CAST system work?
We replace your existing home setup with a UniFi-powered, professionally configured base CAST system.
Every CAST system includes a mandatory firewall and Wi-Fi — either through integrated Wi-Fi or dedicated Access Points — ensuring your network is built on a secure, reliable foundation from day one.
All systems also include physical ports for hard-wired devices, giving you the flexibility of both wired and wireless connections.
As part of the setup, we help you transition all of your devices to one of the secure Wi-Fi networks (SSIDs) we create for you — one for your main devices, one for guests, and an optional network for IoT devices.
We also provide remote installation and training so you know how to connect and use your system with confidence.
Included in all CAST base systems.
After installation, CAST offers different service levels depending on your needs. Our basic monitoring keeps an eye on your system for problems and updates, while our advanced monitoring includes remote support when you need extra help. Both options are available at a fraction of the cost charged by big vendors, with the same goal in mind — keeping your firewall and Wi-Fi system secure, updated, and running smoothly.
Why CAST? Why Now?
Before today, it was nearly impossible for homes and small offices to get the kind of protection and performance that CAST delivers. Cloud technology didn’t exist, and remote monitoring or support wasn’t an option. The only way to achieve enterprise-level security and reliability was to hire a dedicated, full-time IT staff — something that came with a massive price tag. Small offices and home users were often left to struggle with expensive, outdated, or incomplete solutions.
With over 30 years of proven experience in cybersecurity, networking, and Wi-Fi, CAST changes that. We’ve worked with companies like Apple, Riot Games, and Caesars Entertainment, ensuring networks are secure, reliable, and easy to manage. Now, CAST makes that expertise accessible, affordable, and ready to deploy — so you can enjoy enterprise-grade cybersecurity and Wi-Fi without the enterprise costs.
Why choose CAST instead of doing it yourself?
Many people try to set up their own Wi-Fi and firewall using gear from online shops or big box stores. Yes, you can always do it yourself and save money upfront — but in the end, most DIY setups are either misconfigured, left unsecure, or never updated.
What CAST configures and secures reflects 30 years of expertise, delivering a secure system that works flawlessly without compromising performance or price — something that would take most people days, weeks, or even months to achieve on their own.
Most people give up partway through, leaving their network wide open to hackers.
On top of that, products that sit too long on store shelves are often already outdated and vulnerable the day you unbox them — adding even more risk to your Home, Office, or Business.
CAST takes a professional approach. We configure your firewall and Wi-Fi system correctly from day one, set up secure access, and make sure everything works together. On top of that, we offer monitoring services. With basic monitoring, we watch for problems and keep your system updated. With advanced monitoring, we also provide remote support when you need it. This means fewer headaches, better reliability, and stronger security — all at a fraction of what big tech vendors charge.
Can I still manage the system after CAST installs it?
Yes. CAST provides access to a professional dashboard so you can view system health and performance. You remain in control, while CAST delivers support and monitoring based on your selected service tier.
Do I need ongoing support, or can I just do a one-time setup?
Both are available. A one-time setup establishes a strong foundation, but ongoing support ensures updates, monitoring, and quick response to incidents. CAST offers flexible monthly options that keep you secure without the inflated costs of big tech vendors.

What is IoT, and Why Do I Need a Separate Wi-Fi for It?
IoT stands for the “Internet of Things.” It includes all the smart devices connected to your network — things like smart fridges, security cameras, video doorbells, garage door openers, light bulbs, and speakers.
The challenge with IoT devices is that most are rarely updated, poorly secured, and never monitored. This makes them favorite targets for hackers. While these devices bring convenience, they can also create major risks if they share the same network as your laptops, phones, and work computers.
CAST solves this by creating a dedicated, segmented Wi-Fi network (VLAN) just for your IoT devices. This keeps your smart gadgets connected and working normally — but isolated from your critical devices.
The result: you still get the convenience of a smart home or office, while keeping your sensitive data and work devices safe from potential IoT security flaws.
Can my CAST UniFi system grow? What if I need more coverage?
Yes! UniFi is highly flexible, and with CAST’s professional configuration, there’s nothing basic about how your network is set up. We design your system to be fully scalable, so you can easily add additional Access Points, switches, cameras, VoIP devices, and more as your needs grow.
With our 30+ years of experience, there’s no guessing. We use our enterprise-level knowledge to configure your system with the same care and precision as we would for any large organization. Every network we set up — whether for a home, home office, or small business — is treated with equal importance and built to perform like enterprise-grade infrastructure.
Thanks to CAST’s professional configuration — including carefully segmented networks, advanced security, and performance-tuned settings — your system can grow seamlessly. You can easily add Access Points, switches, cameras, VoIP devices, and more without needing CAST to intervene, all while maintaining enterprise-grade reliability and protection.
Can I get support from CAST on my existing Wi-Fi or firewall system?
No. CAST only supports systems that are purchased and set up by us. This ensures your Wi-Fi and firewall are secure, reliable, and configured the right way. With our systems, we can provide a better service level agreement (SLA) and focus on what matters most — keeping your system up and protected. Supporting systems we did not install would mean guessing at how they were set up, which could create problems and downtime for you.
Does CAST provide PC or desktop support?
CAST does not provide PC or desktop support. We believe that most, if not all, PC issues begin with a faulty firewall, an improperly configured firewall, or a poor wireless setup. With a secure network in place as the first line of defense, many of the common PC problems can be prevented before they even start.
